FAQs
Where are sessions located?
Sessions are held either over video (Telehealth via HIPAA secure platform), or as walking sessions in western San Francisco.
For clients who are interested, I recommend one walking session every 4-6 months to help our connection feel alive. The location for walking sessions is decided mutually before each in-person walking meeting.
Due to licensing laws, clients must be in California during Teleheath therapy sessions.
Do you take insurance?
No. This is an intentional decision in order to increase the quality of care I can provide to you.
While I’m considered out-of-network with all insurance providers, I am happy to provide the documentation you’ll need to submit a claim with your insurance carrier for out-of-network therapy. Many carriers will reimburse at least a portion of what you’ll pay to me as a private provider, and I fully support you in asking for that money!
What is your cancellation policy?
If you have to cancel a session with less than 24hrs notice, I charge the full session fee.
For walking sessions, I charge the full session fee if cancelled with less than 72hrs notice.
How long will I be in therapy?
This depends on your goals, frequency of sessions, and your ability to implement what you learn in therapy to your life. I am happy to work with you either long-term or short-term!
Quarterly (or semi-annual/annual) walking sessions are a good opportunity for us to review and reflect on your progress and goals.
Do you have a sliding scale?
Not at this time, but I hope to open a small number of need-based sliding scale spots in the future.
How do I pay for sessions?
I use Ivy Pay, which allows you to add your preferred form of payment to be charged after each session.
Good Faith Estimate
As a self-pay client, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency psychotherapy services. This is true for all healthcare providers for whose services you are paying out-of-pocket.
I am happy to provide you a Good Faith Estimate for services before any scheduled session, or at any time you request it. If you are ultimately billed more than $400 more than this Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or the dispute process, visit https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers
Who Do I Talk To If I Have a Complaint?
I welcome you to speak with me directly! Places where I “miss” you or make a mistake are an excellent opportunity for both of us to grow. I promise to hear you out and discuss whatever happened with humility.
If you don’t feel comfortable doing the above or don’t feel resolved after, the Board of Behavioral Sciences receives and responds to complaints regarding services provided within the scope of practice of clinical social workers. You may contact the board online at www.bbs.ca.gov, or by calling (916) 574-7830.
